My Review:Going into Dead Dreams, I held no expectations. I kept away from reviews until I read it myself. lol. I was very intrigued by the synopsis and the significance of 'dead dreams'.
From a editing perspective, I wish the chapters were longer. I think I used to the overly long, detailed chapters in fantasy novels. I did find the chapter length did work to keep me engaged with the story and find out what happened next.
I really like Brie. She was a very trusting character, even though circumstances seemed a little off. I read in a review ( I forgot which one) about how it reminded them of the movie Single White Female (SWF). I have to agree the vibes from SWF were throughout this novel. There are definitely some creepy scenes in this novel. I didn't think she was necessarily too trusting, I think that her and I are quite similar in that we try to see the best in people. Also, in her case, she was desperate for a roommate to help afford the rent.
I was surprised by the relationship between Brie and her brother. Not a lot is explained about why it is the way it is. It was also something that I couldn't relate too because I am so close to my brothers.
Now, her room mate , Sarah was a very hidden character. There are many unanswered questions about her and it was impossible to know what she was thinking. In many ways, she is a complete contrast to Brie.
There is a biblical undertone to this novel. Brie's pastor like to check in on her. As well, Brie's dreams take on a more sinister meaning. And of course, there is a major cliffhanger at the end of the book. I can't wait to read the next installment!
I really hope to see more character development and finally get some answers in the next book~~
3.5- 4 stars :)
